Honduras – Barana
Barana is a specialty coffee produced by a family-owned exporting company, founded in 1991 in the coffee-growing region of Copán, Honduras, and comprised of several coffee farmers.
The farms are located between the Montecillos Mountain Range, Otatala, Masaguara, and Intibucá. These coffee farmers specialize in organic and fair trade coffees. The company holds Bio Latina and FLO-Cert (Fair Trade) certifications and has a production capacity of 17,000 quintals. It offers wet and dry coffee processing services, negotiation of sales in the organic and fair trade markets, financial support for its members, and training.
The Catuai coffee bean is distinguished by its natural sweetness and its noticeable yet gentle acidity. It is a versatile and flavorful variety that reflects the tradition and dedication of coffee farmers in different regions of the world. Coffee plantations of this bean were first developed in Brazil as a hybrid between the Mundo Novo and Caturra varieties. These small trees can be found in Brazil, Colombia, Honduras, Costa Rica, and Guatemala.
On the other hand, the Icatu variety was created as an interspecific hybrid (Arabica x Robusta) developed to combat coffee rust. It doesn’t require fungicides and allows farmers to ensure a stable harvest. The Lempira variety is also a high-yield specialty coffee bean, adapted to warm climates and acidic soils.
The Parainema variety is the result of a genetic improvement program that offers a cup with floral notes, a sweet honey finish, and a well-balanced citric acidity. It is a clean, large Arabica bean that delivers a balanced cup with a consistent crema and medium intensity.
Thanks to a medium roast like the one we use at Camden Coffee Roasters, a creamy body is achieved with a clean and sweet cup.
On the palate, it reveals hints of cane sugar in its sweetness and an appealing stone fruit flavor in its acidity.
Its intense milk chocolate aroma makes it an ideal drink for both Italian and espresso lattes, pairing beautifully with milk.
