Rwanda is known as the country of a thousand hills, it has an ideal climate and topography to grow very good quality coffee. After the 1990 genocide, the population found hope for the future in the coffee plantations. Thanks to foreign development organizations, aid came to Rwanda to support coffee production as a driver of the economy.

The government soon realized that they could not compete in terms of quantity of production, but they could compete in quality. They have invested a lot of time, energy, and resources in developing a network of common wet mills, where microlots from farms in different areas are processed. This political decision has paid off, as Rwanda has gained a very good reputation on the international specialty coffee scene.

Farmers in the northern hills of Rwanda grow coffee at high altitudes of 1,850 to 2,200 meters above sea level; the result is a sweet and pleasant coffee with berries, caramel, and floral notes.

Gakenke, in the northern province of Rwanda, is perfect for producing high-quality coffees.

In addition to processing cherries from small farmers, this family farm also has a business farm consisting of 30,000 trees. Most of the trees are Red Bourbon. They use the farm to demonstrate the best agronomic practices to contributing farmers.

To develop the rich and complex flavors of this coffee, it was picked ripe, graded, and meticulously cared for during 48 days of drying. The end result is an attractive and exuberant cup of coffee with notes of blueberries, dark chocolate, and berries.

It is characterized by its creaminess and subtle aromatic notes of grapefruit and black tea. Recommended for espresso and preparations with milk.
